Police: 48-year-old Arlington inmate died of natural causes

ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- A 48-year-old Arlington inmate died of natural causes, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner determined. 

Man dies at detention facility in Arlington County

Anthony Gordon died on August 22, 2015 while he was in custody of the Arlington County Police Department, police said. It has been determined that Gordon died of natural causes due to an extensive history of medical issues, authorities stated.

The man was found unconscious in a medical unit cell in the early hours of August 22. Resuscitation efforts were made by deputies and nurses before he was taken to the Virginia Hospital Center. He died at around 3:31 a.m.

Police say man discovered living in church attic arrested

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - A man has been arrested after police say he was discovered living in the attic of a church for three years.

Police say 42-year-old William Barker was arrested Monday and charged with unlawful entry. Authorities say he was living in a makeshift bed inside the attic at the Saint Ann Roman Catholic Church in Arlington.

Police say Barker told officers that he would use a ladder to sneak up to the attic. Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck says Barker's room was discovered after someone working in maintenance repair heard noises from above in the kitchen area.

Authorities say they also found food, water, a guitar and clothing in the room.

Police say Barker was taken into custody. It isn't immediately clear if he has an attorney.

Suspects wanted in armed Arlington spa robbery

ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- Two men are wanted for an armed robbery that happened at an Arlington spa on Saturday night, Fairfax County police said.

The robbery happened at the Blossom Spa located at 6051 Arlington Boulevard around 8 p.m., authorities said.

Two men went into the spa, threatened the two women working with knives and then stole money and personal property. Nobody was injured in the robbery.

Police said the suspects are being described as black men in their early to mid-40s. They are between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 7 inches tall. One man has a skinny build and black hair. He was wearing a dark colored jacket and a black baseball cap at the time of the incident.

The second man has a medium build and black hair. He was clean shaven and wearing a red shirt at the time of the robbery.

Arlington police continue investigating death of inmate


ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- The Arlington County Police Department is launching an investigation, following the mysterious death of an inmate in a detention facility.

For the second time in less than two months, a detainee has died inside the Arlington County Detention Facility. Police said Edward Straughn,53, was found unconscious in a medical cell Saturday morning. Before he was transported to the Virginia Hospital Center, deputies and nurses tried to resuscitate him.

He later died at the hospital. Straughn was sent to jail on October 9 for a trespassing conviction.

23-year-old woman sexually assaulted in Arlington

ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- A 23-year-old woman was sexually assaulted Saturday in Arlington, Va., according to police.

The incident happened in the 1800 block of N. Scott Street. at approximately 2:33 a.m. Police say the victim was followed home and pushed into the bushes by an unknown man.

The suspect inappropriately touched the victim and implied that he had a knife, police said.

The suspect is described by police as a a black male in his 20's, approximately 5'10"-5'11" tall and was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.
