Capital Bikeshare Launches New 5-Day Membership

Capital Bikeshare Launches New 5-Day Membership

From DDOT:

(Washington, D.C.) In anticipation of the hundreds of thousands of visitors expected at this year’s National Cherry Blossom Festival, and with tourist season right around the corner, Capital Bikeshare has introduced a new 5-day membership option. The new 5-day membership, priced at $15, is geared specifically towards visitors to the nation’s capital and offers significant savings over the purchase of five individual day memberships priced at $5 a day. The membership is available for purchase at all Capital Bikeshare stations. Even before the festival kicks off, Capital Bikeshare has reached an exciting milestone: Tuesday night a member logged the 250,000th Bikeshare trip, just six months after the program’s launch in September 2010.

Towing Fee Hike Expected in Arlington: What’s Your Stance?

Towing Fee Hike Expected in Arlington: What’s Your Stance?

Arlington County Officials will consider increasing towing fees this Saturday. County staffers have suggested increasing the fee from $115 to $125, which would make it the maximum rate possible under Virginia Law. If everything goes according to plan, the final approval of the change would occur at the County meeting on April 16. Arlington tow companies have been lobbying to see this increase for months.

However, local residents have mixed feelings. Pamela Lessard is not opposed to this change at all. Residents on her street in Arlington recently petitioned to the county to only allow residents to park on their street. “With the transformation of our neighborhood into a very active urban village, it was necessary to enact this zoning restriction,” said Lessard.

I-66 HOV Ramps Opening to All Traffic during Off-Peak Hours Beginning Feb. 28

From Fairfax County:

At long last, the HOV ramps on I-66 at Monument Drive and Stringfellow Road will open to all traffic during off-peak hours and on weekends beginning at 10am Monday, February 28. While opening the ramps will not solve all the traffic problems on I-66, it will immediately ease congestion along that route as well as US-50, the Fairfax County Parkway, and Route 28.

Opening these ramps during off-peak hours will also give motorists another way to avoid the construction happening as VDOT adds a new interchange where the Fairfax County Parkway and the Fair Lakes Parkway intersect.
