Young Entrepreneurs Introduce a New Type of Group Buying Site

You may be sick and tired of hearing about new group buying sites popping up, but two D.C. natives have created a daily deal site with a twist. Josh Hoffman, of D.C., and Harrison Miller, of Arlington, make this week’s Super NoVA spot for making a daily deal site that truly differentiates itself from others.

Hoffman and Miller were childhood friends and then college roommates at University of Pennsylvania for three years. As two socially conscious individuals, they saw the Groupon model as powerful, but they knew something was missing; they were determined to leverage the existing model to make a difference in the world. The two launched Deals for Deeds in May 2010.

A Super NoVA is a person with a unique talent or business that makes them stand out in the crowd of Northern Virginia. Matt Bigge is this week’s Super NoVA for his efforts to make a global impact.

Bigge is President and CEO of StrategicSocial, which owns and operates businesses in austere environments. StrategicSocial has an office locally in Rosslyn, as well as Silicon Valley, Kabul, Basra, Kandahar, and Baghdad.

“We do business where people don’t vacation,” said Bigge.

Bigge’s company just celebrated a 2-year anniversary this past April. What started off as a software company quickly molded into a ‘soft power’ company when they realized their customers needed more.

"This is an amazing way to be apart of the soft side of national security,” said Bigge.
