Favorite Fridays: What's Your Favorite Mexican Spot?

Favorite Fridays: What's Your Favorite Mexican Spot?

There is nothing better this time of year then sitting outside with chips, queso and a cold margarita. It’s quite possible that I could eat Mexican every night and be happy. It’s also quite possible that I’d become a bit overweight so I only allow myself to indulge once a week.

Check out some of my favorite restaurants below and vote on yours!

Oyamel Cocina Mexicana- One can't go wrong with anything by Jose Andres. The food is spectacular (I’m partial to the soft tacos)... but the real reason you go to Oyamel is the tableside guacamole, which is better than Rosa Mexicana’s. Get the guacamole spicy and you will not be disappointed. For a fun twist on a margarita, get the Oyamel Margarita; it has whipped salty air on top as apposed to a salted rim. If you are looking for gourmet Mexican food and great cuisine, Oyamel is the place to go.

Brunch: The best (and only!) reason to get up early on weekends.

Blacks Bar & Kitchen- If you like seafood and champagne, this is the best brunch value in the area. Having sampled several of the champagne "flavors" on the menu, I found the Sangria Champagne to be delightful. The brunch buffet was laid out in three tiers. Including roast beef, a made-to-order omelet and quiche in tier 1, shrimp, oysters, clams, salads and salmon in tier 2 and the pastries and desserts were in tier 3. The quality of the food was very good and everything was fresh and tasty. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was very nice. The soft jazz playing in the background was a nice touch.

Favorite Fridays: What's Your Favorite Sushi Spot?

Favorite Fridays: What's Your Favorite Sushi Spot?

Sushi has taken off here in the United States. It’s not for everyone, but try it and you may be pleasantly surprised.

All types can be healthy, but you receive more vitamins from sushi made with vegetables, more minerals from sushi that is wrapped in seaweed, and more protein (and omega-3s, depending on the type of fish) from sushi topped with fish.

I love sushi...and Sake bombs so check out a few of my favorite spots and vote on yours!

SushiKo, Chevy Chase: The seared lobster and scallops are delicious and a must-try. My suggestion: If you want to enjoy this restaurant experience, select items that feature ingredient combinations that normally you wouldn’t try.

Raku, Bethesda: Fabulous sushi. Fresh, delicious, and in my opinion they make the best vegetable tempura and fried calamari. The steamed Chicken and Pork dumplings are by far my favorite item on the menu.
