ALEXANDRIA,  Va. (WUSA) - Due to Sandy's arrival in the area, the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria had to cancel its Doggie Howl O ween Costume Contest on Tuesday at the  Hotel Monaco Alexandria and Jackson 20. 

The event, an annual tradition in Alexandria, always features fabulous canines in costume, and its proceeds from the contest benefit the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

Disappointed dogs and their owners can be certain there will be another Doggie Howl-O-Ween Costume Contest next year, and maybe some special events before then.
