Arlington police search for possible serial rapist


ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- With four attempted rapes or abductions happening to women walking alone at night in the last 16 days, Arlington police fear a serial rapist may be on the loose.

All four women were able to fight off their attacker.

Pillowcase put over woman's face in Arlington assault

The most recent assault occurred on Saturday near Lyon Village Park when a woman was walking alone from a bar at 3 a.m. Saturday.

The man approached the woman from behind and threw a pillowcase over her head. She kicked and screamed until he finally pulled off the pillowcase and ran away.

"It's terrible. I just don't expect that around here," said neighbor Tammy Gibbs.

Suspect wanted for attacking woman on Arlington trail


ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- Police have released a sketch of a man involved in an attempted sexual assault and abduction of a woman on the Washington & Old Dominion Trail in Arlington last month.

Arlington Police are trying to identify a man who attacked a woman from behind while she was running in Glencarlyn Park on July 31, around 8:45 p.m. The suspect pushed the woman to the ground and tried to cover her mouth with his hand. The woman was able to scream out for help, which caused the man to flee northbound on the trail.

The suspect is being described as a dark skinned Hispanic man between the ages of 20 and 30, standing 5'6" tall and weighing around 140 pounds. The man was wearing long, baggy, grey shorts without a shirt at the time of the attack.

Police: Uber driver arrested in Arlington groping incident


ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- A 58-year-old Uber driver has been arrested in connection with sexually assaulting a 24-year-old woman in the Clarendon area of Arlington in July.

The assault happened on July 12, around 3:15 a.m. in the 2200 block of York Drive in Woodbridge when the woman and another female acquaintance were picked up by a driver in Clarendon using the Uber service application.

The driver drove both women to York Dr. in Woodbridge. Police said the driver got out of the car and approached the woman. He inappropriately groped the victim over her clothing. The woman's acquaintance did not see the incident happen.

Three sexual assaults under investigation in Arlington


ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- Two recent sexual assaults in Arlington have a similar suspect description to an attempted rape on July 25, police said.

According to police, the first incident happened on Saturday at 11:26 p.m. in the 4300 block of N. Pershing Drive. Police say a 25-year-old female victim was grabbed from behind and pushed to the ground while walking home. The suspect then touched her inappropriately until she bit one of his hands and fled.

The suspect in this incident is described as a Hispanic male between 5-feet and 5-feet 3-inches tall with black hair and a mustache. They were reportedly wearing a gray t-shirt and jeans at the time of the incident.

Police: Uber driver wanted for Arlington sexual assault


ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- An Uber driver is wanted for sexually assaulting an intoxicated female passenger in Arlington, according to Arlington County police.

On Sunday between 2:45 a.m. and 4:03 a.m., police say the woman entered an Uber cab that was not her intended ride. Despite not being the ride established by the app, the driver agreed to provide the woman a ride, according to police.

When the woman was unable to pay for the ride, police say the driver sexually assaulted her near the 900 block of South Randolph Street. The woman was able to flee to a nearby friend's house.

Wounded Marine finishes ride across America


ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- A wounded Marine is getting some much-needed rest after a 63-day journey across America.

Toran Gaal set out from San Diego on a hand bike back in June and crossed the finish line at the Iwo Jima memorial Sunday morning.

Four years ago Gaal lost both of his legs to an IED in Afghanistan. He awoke two months later and began a very long journey and finished it with cheers and hugs from those who fought beside him in Afghanistan and back home.

"There's no words that you could even put in place to explain how proud anyone could be of Gaal right now," Rian Martinez, who served alongside Gaal in Afghanistan.

Police: Man wanted for trying to rape woman in Arlington


ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- Police released a sketch of a man who tried to rape a 25-year-old woman after pulling her into the bushes in Arlington on July 25.

The abduction happened around 1:20 a.m. in the 1900 block of 15th Street N., Arlington County police said. The suspect forced the victim into the bushes and grabbed at the victim's pant's police said. She was then able to fight him off. The suspect then fled the area on foot, according to authorities.

The woman flagged down a driver who then called 911.

The suspect is described as a white Hispanic man between 5'6" and 5'8" tall and weighing between 150 and175 pounds with an athletic build. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, according to authorities.
