News, Schools

From Arlington Public Schools:

Apple Inc. selected Jamestown Elementary School as an Apple Distinguished Program for the 2011-12 school year. Jamestown is one of 49 schools nationwide recognized by Apple.

Schools are selected based on their integration of Apple products and solutions into a learning program, and demonstrate Apple’s vision of exemplary learning environments. Apple stated that it chose Jamestown because of its commitment to using Mac notebooks and iPads to educate children in an optimal learning environment that will prepare them for success in a global society.

Apple Distinguished Programs demonstrate six best practice qualities of exemplary learning environments with:

  • Visionary leadership
  • Infrastructure that supports an Apple learning environment
  • Engaging teaching and learning methods that capitalize on the qualities of today’s students who are mobile, collaborative and creative
  • One-to-one access to Apple portable computers and/or mobile devices for all students, teachers, and administrators
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Systems to routinely collect quantitative evidence highlighting the success and sustainability of their academic programs

Apple Distinguished Programs are invited by Apple Inc. to participate in a recognition program that disseminates best practice models of teaching and learning. In return, programs receive public recognition from Apple and an opportunity to enter into a special level of collaboration.
