Police: Uber driver arrested in Arlington groping incident

ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- A 58-year-old Uber driver has been arrested in connection with sexually assaulting a 24-year-old woman in the Clarendon area of Arlington in July.

The assault happened on July 12, around 3:15 a.m. in the 2200 block of York Drive in Woodbridge when the woman and another female acquaintance were picked up by a driver in Clarendon using the Uber service application.

The driver drove both women to York Dr. in Woodbridge. Police said the driver got out of the car and approached the woman. He inappropriately groped the victim over her clothing. The woman's acquaintance did not see the incident happen.

During the investigation, police were able to identify the suspect as Mengistu Asfaw, 58, of Annandale. Asfaw is being charged with misdemeanor sexual battery. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 9 and is being held on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
