Arlington Students Invited to White House Easter Egg Roll

From Arlington Public Schools:

Students from Arlington Traditional School, Glebe, Jamestown, McKinley and Taylor elementary schools will have a chance to visit the Easter Bunny on the South Lawn of the White House during the annual Easter Egg Roll on Mon, April 25.

Thanks to a generous donation by the Department of Education and the White House, 250 students will take part in the annual White House event.

This year’s theme, “Get Up and Go!” promotes health and wellness. The event will feature live music, sports courts, cooking stations, storytelling and the traditional Easter egg roll. All of the activities encourage children to lead healthy and active lives and follow the First Lady’s “Let’s Move!” initiative, a national campaign to combat childhood obesity.

Each of the five elementary schools will receive 50 tickets each to participate in the Easter Egg Roll.

All five schools have been recognized by the state of Virginia for their strong instructional program and for achieving educational excellence, and all are also involved in providing a program that focuses on developing healthy lifestyles.

In 2009 and 2010, 16 APS elementary schools received tickets to the Easter Egg Roll. Tickets for this year’s celebration were divided among elementary schools that have not had an opportunity to participate in previous years.
