Walter Reed Community Center Holds Black History Month Gospel Concert

The Walter Reed Community Center, which is located at 2909 16th Street in Arlington, held a special concert today in honor of Black History Month. This free concert was one of many events held in Arlington County for Black History Month. 

Arlington County Board Chairman Chris Zimmerman introduced the members of Macedonia Baptist Church before they began their singing. Minister of Music, David Nelson, lead a discussion on the historical significance of each song and the spiritual value of African American Culture.

Dreams for Kids and the Caps are teaming up to give children with physical and developmental disabilities the opportunity to play hockey, many for the first time! The Extreme Recess clinic will celebrate the ability in all children and show them how truly ABLE they are.

The event will bring together 75 youth with physical and developmental disabilities, their families, high-level disability advocates, volunteers, several capitals players and members of the coaching staff.

Feel the Heritage Festival Coming Soon

Hundreds of Arlington County residents will be celebrating the rich culture and history of African Americans at the 19th Annual FEEL THE HERITAGE FESTIVAL on Saturday, February 26, 2011, Noon – 5 p.m., at Charles Drew Community Center, 3500 S. 24th St. in Arlington. This year's festival will include arts and craft vendors, make-it-and-take it crafts, a full array of great entertainment and educational programming and, of course, delicious food. Admission to the festival is free. Feel the Heritage Festival is sponsored by Arlington County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources and Arlington County Public Schools and put together by a dedicated group of community volunteers.

Don't Miss Out On The Biggest Chinese New Year Festival in the Area

Tonight is Chinese New Year's Eve. Tomorrow marks the start of the Year of the Rabbit on the lunar calendar. The Asian Community Service Center is proud to present the 4th Annual Chinese New Year Festival on Saturday, February 12th. The Festival will take place all day long, from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Luther Jackson Middle School in Falls Church, VA. The middle school is located at 3020 Gallows Road. 

The entire school will be filled with Chinese New Year decorations, booths, games, dancing, food, and more. The auditorium, the cafeteria, the gymnasium, and even the hallways will be filled with different cultural activities and decor. Admission is FREE and you will get the chance to try great asian food, watch live performances, see the traditional Chinese New Year Parade, draw prizes, and gain Asian cultural exposure.

Ivan Update

He stole our hearts when he was stolen from the New York Avenue shelter in November. Since being returned to us, Ivan has been in a loving WHS foster home. His foster parents have taught him great manners and they say he is an amazing dog who will make a great addition to any family.
