Arlington's First Super NOVA Performs the Smooth Criminal 3-Minute Haircut

A Super NOVA is a talented resident of the Northern Virginia area. Meet Arlington's very first Super NOVA: Sam Kavenchy. Kavenchy, who is originally from France, launched his own spa salon a year and a half ago in Clarendon. He has been doing hair for 20 years, and has always wanted to open his own salon. Kavenchy’s dream came true when he opened the full service salon in Arlington that does hair for men and women, facials, make-up, waxing, massages, and nails. The salon has 5 stylists on staff, including Kavenchy himself. Kavenchy’s background as an artist has led him to pursue a new art: hair styling.

Last night, inspired by Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” Kavenchy did a haircut on model Arthur Pelio for the length of the song. A haircut that would normally take about 30 minutes was done in just 3 minutes and 4 seconds. "I prefer doing women's hair, but he became the model tonight," said Kavenchy. Kavenchy’s hands worked quickly to the beat of the song, and he was careful not to amputate Pelio’s ears. Pelio expressed some nerves before the song was hit “play,” but put his fate in Kavenchy’s hands.

Kavenchy’s talents as a hairstylist and artist make him our very first Super NOVA. Check out other Super NOVA’s every Wednesday afternoon going forward. Email escott@wusa9.com any nominations, or nominate yourself if you have a unique talent, business, or idea that makes you a Super NOVA!
