Two Washington Redskins Visit Local Elementary School

Claremont Immersion Elementary School of Arlington, VA had some special visitors today. Washington Redkins LB Brian Orakpo and RB Clinton Portis gathered in the elementary school’s packed gymnasium this afternoon. Tanya Snyder, wife of Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, was also present.

Why did Claremont Immersion Elementary have these NFL visitors? The school was selected as a NFL PLAY 60 Super School and received a check for $10,000 to go towards health, fitness, and nutrition activities, as well as programs and equipment. Faculty and students screamed and jumped with excitement when the NFL presented the school with the large check.

A few students were selected to ask the players questions in front of the audience gathered for the school assembly. Some questions kids asked were: “What is the best way to stay fit? How many yards have you run? What is your favorite fruit or vegetable?” The players suggested students try to get away from the X-Box and to get outside to play more. Brian Orakpo said his favorite fruit is pineapple. Clinton Portis said he has run around 10,000 yards, about the same as the amount presented in the check to the school!
