'Tis the Season for Giving

On Friday, Giant Food donated $10,000 to Arlington Street People’s Assistance Network (A-SPAN), a community based organization dedicated to help every homeless person in Arlington County get off the streets and live a better life.

Giant presented the check on Friday at Nottingham Elementary School in Arlington. During the remainder of the day, A-SPAN gave 5 presentations and “mini-walks” to help elementary school students learn about what the organization does and how the kids can help. A-SPAN’s efforts help support the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Program, so these "mini-walks" were a smaller version of the Fannie Mae Walk for the Homeless, which will talk place on the National Mall on November 20.

Sarah Morse, the Volunteer and Special Events Coordinator, gave a presentation to the kids demonstrating what assistance A-SPAN provides, such as giving homeless people clothing, blankets, showers, and a place to live. The children participated in the interactive presentation before walking around the school with signs about what they learned. Nottingham Elementary School has contributed around $5,000 to A-SPAN through a change-drive and monetary donations.
