Prince Harry Begings Trip To U.S. in Washington

WASHINGTON(WUSA9) -- Prince Harry arrived Thursday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

His first stop was on Capitol Hill where he toured the Halo Trust exhibit. It's a charity that removes landmines from war torn countries. It's the very cause his late mother, Princess Diana championed.

He then made a quick stop at the White House where the First Lady was hosting an event for military mothers.  By 5:30 he and his entourage were at the British Embassy for a reception and dinner for the 25th anniversary of Halo.

Rebecca Meyers and her sister Lisa were extremely excited to be invited.  "I'm more excited than going to prom."  Meyers competed in the paralympic games.

Prince Harry will continue his US visit Friday by laying a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery and meet wounded warriors at Walter Reed.  His last stop will be in Denver for the Warrior games for competing wounded military personnel.

Sailor Dies when America's Cup Boat Capsizes

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - One sailor died and another was hurt when a Swedish catamaran training for the America's Cup capsized in San Francisco Bay on Thursday.

UK double gold medalist Andrew Simpson was identified as the sailor killed.

San Francisco Fire Department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said two people were seriously injured when the Artemis Racing catamaran capsized at about 1 p.m. local time near Treasure Island.

Talmadge said both were brought to shore and taken to the St. Francis Yacht Club, where paramedics performed CPR on one of the two. That person was pronounced dead a short time later. Officials said the other person's injuries were not life-threatening.

The roughly 10 other people on board were transferred to a support boat operated by Oracle Racing, the America's Cup holder.

Randy Jackson: I'm leaving 'Idol'

(USA TODAY) -- Dawg, he's no longer it it to win it.

Randy Jackson, the musician and producer who has been a judge on American Idol since Season 1, says he will not be coming back to the panel for Season 13 next year.

"Yo! Yo! Yo!" he said in a statement released by his publicist. "To put all of the speculation to rest, after twelve years of judging on American Idol I have decided to leave after this season. I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It's been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures."

The "speculation" he refers to is Idol's drifting fortunes this season, with friction between panel-mates Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, and ratings down by a quarter year over year. The situation has spurred conjecture and some unsourced reports that Fox is planning an overhaul for next spring's cycle.
