President Obama Honors Veterans At Arlington National Cemetery

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - President Barack Obama has laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in a visit to Arlington National Cemetery, the final resting place for many American war heroes.

Obama rode by motorcade from the White House to the hallowed burial grounds in suburban Virginia on a sun-splashed, but cool spring holiday. Canon fire could be heard in the distance.

Marines stood at attention along the road that carried the president to tomb site. The headstones at the national cemetery were adorned with mini-American flags.

Appearing before a hushed crowd at the venerable cemetery, Obama strode with uniformed military officers to the site of the Tomb and set the wreath in place after the playing of the National Anthem.

The president was to give a speech following the wreath-laying.

Aircraft Fly Too Close To Each Other At National

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA)--The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating an incident that occurred about one mile south of Washington National Airport at 4 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2013.

FAA officials say that Republic Airlines 3281, an Embraer E170 aircraft, was descending to land on Runway 33 when a military UH-60 helicopter flying ahead of and below the E170, briefly climbed to the same altitude of 400 feet.

According to the FAA statement, air traffic control advised both pilots of the location of the other aircraft before the military helicopter climbed.

An FAA spokesperson says the E170 made a missed approach, circled around and landed safely a few minutes later.
